General Pharmacology
This laboratory is closely involved in all aspects of Actelion's drug discovery program. Monitoring of blood pressure, heart rate and function, as well as drug distribution are performed routinely. The most challenging task still remains to develop new experimental approaches to understand the physiological mechanisms involved in the efficacy of Actelion's clinical candidates.
Cardiovascular Pharmacology
This laboratory determines the efficacy of Actelion's lead compounds on targeted microvascular receptors through the study of large vessels and microvascular reactivity. An active program in basic research in vascular physiology and pharmacology has been launched by Actelion to uncover new vascular targets for the treatment of vascular diseases.
Neuropharmacology
A set of complementary in vitro methods and non-invasive measurements of neurological and behavioral functions in rodents are used for the pharmacological characterization of Actelion's drugs. Innovative paradigms for central nervous system (CNS) research are established to uncover novel mechanisms of action of drugs against neurological and psychiatric diseases.
