In 2007, Actelion Pharmaceuticals was honored by Scientific American, the oldest continuously published magazine in the U.S with a focus on developments in science and technology. The publication bestows honor on 50 individuals, teams, companies and other organizations for accomplishment in research demonstrating outstanding technological leadership and who in their words develop "new machines or chemicals that come close to the true meaning of innovation as something entirely new." Actelion emerged as a business leader for its work in developing Almorexant the first-in-class oral orexin receptor antagonist which has the potential to transform the treatment of insomnia by restoring normal physiological sleep.
