Actelion's commitment to its people
Actelion is dedicated to creating a rewarding and stimulating workplace environment that encourages innovation and excellence. This is expressed in a common striving for scientific rigor, creative thinking and teamwork across disciplines. The size of the company and flat hierarchies allow each individual to have an impact. Decisions are taken quickly and implemented effectively.
To attract, retain and motivate talented people, Actelion offers remuneration packages that are competitive with industry standards and internally equitable. There is a clear commitment to create a performance-driven culture and provide opportunities to participate in the company’s current as well as long-term success.
Compensation packages offer a mix of fixed and variable elements, which are based on the level of responsibility within the organization, individual competence and performance. Every employee is eligible for a variable bonus based on the company’s as well as individual performance. Appraisals are conducted at least once a year for all employees on the basis of annual objectives that include core activities and development plans.
Actelion retains and rewards top performers at all levels with stock options.
To support its ambitious growth strategy and reward long-term dedication, Actelion launched an additional stock option plan in 2005 called the “Challenge Award,” which is available to all employees who join the company by the end of 2006. This plan is conditional upon reaching pre-determined revenue as well as stock price goals.
Nearly 50% of the company’s researchers are women, and Actelion continues to attract more female talent. The workforce is truly international, with 22 countries represented among the scientists based at headquarters in Allschwil; 60% of researchers are from outside Switzerland.
During 2005, 202 new jobs were created worldwide, representing an increase of 23.6% over the previous year. Actelion continues to grow and attract talented people at a rapid pace.
